UCTE ANNUAL CONFERENCE
General Conference Information
Each year, UCTE hosts an annual conference for secondary ELA teachers across the state of Utah. The conference features a keynote speaker (often a Young Adult author, teacher educator, or other well-known practitioners in the ELA field). In addition to a keynote, the conference features presentations from local secondary teachers and university faculty.
The conference also hosts The Future Is Now, a roundtable session for undergraduate and graduate students to present ideas relating to teaching English language arts.
Lastly, awards for Teacher of the Year are presented at the annual conference to honor secondary ELA teachers at various stages in their careers.

Present at UCTE
Have an excellent teaching idea or practice. Consider submitting a presentation proposal for the UCTE Annual Conference. UCTE accepts proposals from educators of all grade levels, and focused on many different topics, from integrating technology to teaching with young adult literature, teaching grammar in context, or developing students speaking and listening skills.
Pre-service teachers, graduate students, and novice teachers can consider submitting a proposal for The Future Is Now Roundtable Session. During these sessions, presenters are grouped with 2-3 other presenters and a respondent where they share a 10-12 minute presentation on things they have been learning and working on in their academic or professional experiences. This session is a great opportunity to get some initial experience presenting and to connect with others who have similar areas of interest.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
We always look forward to the many incredible breakout presentations from some of the best teachers out there--you!
Given our conference theme and our incredible keynote speakers (Jeff Zentner, Chris Crowe, Katie Irion, and Kristin Pierce), we are especially looking forward to presentations that offer possibilities for the incorporation of YAL in the classroom. Think of the texts you've incorporated into your curriculum, or the ways you've helped your students tap into their own stories, for example! However, that is not a requirement, and we will happily review proposals for all sorts of presentations. Have you tried something with your students that you've really liked? Is there a problem or roadblock you've encountered that you've tried to research and problem solve? Do you have coworkers or teacher friends you've collaborated with for different projects? Consider submitting a presentation proposal!
We welcome presentation proposals from educators of all grade levels, and with all different focuses. You will notice that one of the new questions on the application has to do with the existing research you will be pulling from for your presentation. This doesn't need to be a lengthy list of citations or well-analyzed research; rather, we want to encourage the continued incorporation of the best teaching practices, and so we want the presentations at this conference to represent those well-researched practices!
